Avowed starting weapons are decided by the Background you choose during character creation. There's plenty of weaponry available once you start playing, and you can level up and change at at will once you're settled in. But in the begining you'll only have the option you begin with. So it's worth knowing what you're committing to in the early stages, even though it is temporary in the grand scheme of things. With that in mind, here are all of the starting weapons in Avowed for the different Backgrounds to help you make your initial choice.
All the Avowed starting weapons
Based on the Background you pick for your character in Avowed you'll get one of the following five weapons:
- Arcane Scholar – Dagger
- Court Augur – Mace
- Noble Scion – Sword
- Vanguard Scout – Axe
- War Hero – Spear
You'll get your choice early on when you wake up on the beach and meet Garryck, the first of your Avowed companions. Your starting weapon will be attached to, or propped up next, to some barrel and crates nearby. So grab that, along with the Health Potion on the ground next to it.
At this stage your starting weapon in Avowed will not really have a significant impact, as you'll only be using it for the first section of the game and a handful of easy enemies to introduce you to the world of Avowed. In the wider game all characters from any Background will have access to the same pool of weapons. At this point where you invest your points in the Avowed skill trees will determine which weapons will work best for you. You'll also be able to upgrade weapons in Avowed to keep favorites levelling with you.
