Super Mario Odyssey asks the player to collect Moons to progress though the levels. You need 15 to get through Metro Kingdom, but there are actually a total of 81 to be found! This guide will help you track down every last one.

Not all of the Moons can be found as soon as you arrive in Metro Kingdom, though. Here's a helpful reference to let you know when you'll be able to get each Moon:

  • Moons 1-53: can be found anytime
  • Moons 54-66: only available after beating Bowser the last time and returning to Metro Kingdom
  • Moons 54-66: only available after beating Bowser the last time, returning to Metro Kingdom, and smashing the Moon Rock

It's worth noting that we've organized the Moons below in the order they appear on the in-game list.

1 New Donk City’s Pest Problem

Super Mario Odyssey - Mechawiggler

You'll receive the first Power Moon for defeating the boss of this area: the Mechawiggler.

2 Drummer on Board!

Super Mario Odyssey - drummer

After you defeat the Mechawiggler, you'll need to get a band together! The first is the drummer, who is right next to Mayor Pauline at City Hall.

3 Guitarist on Board!

Super Mario Odyssey - guitarist

The guitarist can be found in the park near the Main Street Entrance flag, playing on his own little platform.

4 Bassist on Board!

Super Mario Odyssey - bassist

The bassist is in the Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park. You can get there with a Spark Pylon in the northeast part of the city.

5 Trumpeter on Board!

Super Mario Odyssey - trumpeter

The trumpeter is the most difficult to find of all the band members. He's standing on a rooftop, playing a merry tune! Across from the cafe, look for the pole on a building depicted above on the left and capture it with Cappy. You can launch yourself up and continue to climb the building! Don't give up - you'll need to circle it a little to find more poles and boxes to get to the top.

6 Powering Up the Station

Super Mario Odyssey - Powering Up the Station Power Moon

Getting the power back on is part of preparing for Mayor Pauline's festival! When you get to the end of the Power Station and beat a couple of massive Piranha Plants, you'll earn the associated Power Moon.

7 A Traditional Festival!

This Power Moon is easy to get; just complete the festival in 2D that Mayor Pauline throws! You'll receive it from her at the end.

8 Inside an Iron Girder

Super Mario Odyssey - Inside an Iron Girder Power Moon location

This one is on your way to fight the Mechawiggler, this area's major boss, but can be found later, too. There are some wooden crates on the construction girders you need to cross and, once you've smashed them, you can travel inside and reach the Power Moon!

9 Swaying in the Breeze

Super Mario Odyssey - Swaying in the Breeze Power Moon location

Like the last Moon, you can grab this one on the way to the Mechawiggler, or come back for it after. It's not that difficult to spot; you can find a girder that connects the Heliport to City Hall, and jump to the swaying platform to get the Moon.

10 Girder Sandwich

Yet again, find this on the way to the Mechawiggler or just come back later. Once you get to the area called 'Construction Access,' look towards the edge of the city for a long girder standing on a breakable block. Break said block and you'll be able to cross it and wall-jump up to this Moon!
