Summary

  • Limited crossover MTG x Final Fantasy cards connect two popular card games via shared artwork.
  • Square Enix, creator of Final Fantasy TCG, is participating in a crossover with Magic: The Gathering.
  • Alisaie & Alphinaud, from FF14, appear in two connected cards that share artwork by Kodai Okamato.

Perhaps the biggest achievement of the Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy crossover set is how it connects two card games together, thanks to artwork spread across two cards that was made available in limited numbers at special events.

The most surprising aspect of Square Enix agreeing to the Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy crossover is that the company has a competing card game. The Final Fantasy TCG is a similar competitive collectible game, featuring characters from the entire franchise, not just the mainline sixteen entries.

Attendees at MagicCon: Las Vegas have received special promo cards that link Magic: The Gathering and the Final Fantasy TCG together, as they share the same artwork, which is linked when they’re put side-by-side. An image of these cards was shared by @vickybunnyangel on Twitter/X.

Alisaie & Alphinaud Connect Two TCGs Together

The twin members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn from Final Fantasy 14, Alisaie and Alphinaud Leceilleur, appear in shared artwork across two cards.

Alisaie appears on an alternate art version of Swords to Plowshares, one of the oldest cards in Magic: The Gathering, with the original dating all the way back to Alpha. Alphinaud appears on his own Final Fantasy TCG card, with an ability that lets him search for a different character if he’s brought to the field via a Summon or ability.

The artwork of the two cards, drawn by Kodai Okamato, comes from the same picture, as they’re holding a Moogle, and its headball is split across the artwork.

While these cards were only made available for a very limited time, they’ll appear again at the Magic Spotlight: Final Fantasy event in Chiba, Japan, from June 27-29. Everyone else is going to have to fork out on the second-hand market for a chance to own these cross-game crossover cards.
