Schemas are a fantastic way to supplement your gear if you're running low or if you want something outside of a free kit.

Access to gear is paramount in Marathon, and Schemas are a fantastic, if limited, way to equip something outside a preset kit. They’re not the rarest items in the game, but they are easy to use. Here’s how to get and use them.

You can find Schema in a number of different ways, but the best of them you’ll find on a run in containers like Tool Carts, Arms Lockers, and the like. Schemas are also purchasable from the Reward Pass for Silk. 30 Silk, in most cases.

Each Schema is named for the weapon it grants, so the Magnum MC Schema awards a Magnum MC Pistol. The weapon so granted becomes available in the Armory tab of the Loadout menu. It comes with no cost and a limited number of uses. Once those uses are expended, the weapon will disappear from your armory.

To use a Schema you find on a run, you first need to exfil with it. Like anything you take into or find in a run in Marathon, if you die with it, it’s gone. There are no Safe Pockets or secure containers in this game to secret away a few choice pieces of loot.

If you purchase a Schema from the Rewards pass, it’s used immediately. In either case, once used, whatever weapon is listed in its name becomes yours to use for however many instances its description lists.

Schemas are worth taking if you have space in your inventory while on a run, but only if they’re at least blue rarity. Green weapons and gear become available fairly early from the Faction Armory shops.

You’re unlikely to have a large collection of blue and better equipment unless you’ve been playing for a while, and free loot is still free loot, so there’s no reason to not take them if you’ve the space.

If you want to know where to find an item in a massive open world or how to beat a boss, he can help. They've probably kicked his teeth in a few times already. You can normally find him eyes deep in the latest FromSoftware game if he isn't doing dailies in the half-dozen live service games he plays. He can be found on BlueSky.
