Pokemon Pokopia won't be available on the original Nintendo Switch
Bad news for some fans.
Pokémon Pokopia involves building an island, making the inhabitants happy, and crafting lots of furniture. The world is a shell of itself, and only you, playing the role of a lonely Ditto, can bring it back to life. If that sounds like the kind of thing you are interested in, then you might be eager to play, but if you were hoping to get a copy for your original Nintendo Switch, then I fear there is bad news.
Pokémon Pokopia is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and will not be available to purchase on the original Nintendo Switch. At this point, I couldn't say if that is due to overly complex features that the original will be unable to support or run, or just Nintendo hoping that the game will be a console mover. This does leave many Nintendo Switch owners out in the cold, except for one interesting workaround.
It will be possible to use the GameShare feature with Pokémon Pokopia to stream your game to another Nintendo Switch system, including the original. GameShare is a Nintendo Switch 2 feature thats allow owners of certain games to share their game with another console, effectively streaming that game to them. That person can then play the game themselves, but the game will only be playable while GameShare is active.
So, if you are an original Switch owner and know a Switch 2 owner with a copy of Pokémon Pokopia, you will be able to play it. You can check out our guide on the GameShare feature to learn more.
