How to fix the mouse frozen bug in Marathon

Your mouse not working correctly in Marathon on PC is hugely frustrating. Here are some fixes to the known bug you can try.

Update: Bungie has released a patch to the Server Slam client that appears to have fixed the mouse bug, at least for my client. The official patch announcement post has other, broader comments on the game, but no notable reports of the bug still plaguing the game. Find the original article about the mouse lag bug below.

Marathon has a lot going for it as of the Server Slam, but mouse bugs on PC are frustrating a lot of players, myself included. There are a few official and community answers to these issues, and we’ll list them here.

If you load up Marathon and your mouse is unresponsive, doesn’t appear, or is otherwise nonfunctional, there are a few things you can try to fix the problem.

  • Close Discord if using. You can try opening it after Marathon launches.
  • Disable Steam and other third-party overlays.
  • If you have a streaming app running, capture your full screen rather than just the Marathon window.
  • Play in windowed mode
  • Launch the game and do not alt-tab.
  • Wait a couple minutes.

That last note is probably the worst of them, but it’s what I’ve usually had to do for my cursor sensitivity to return to normal.

The problem is fairly widespread and seems to affect multiple brands of mice of varying ages and sophistication. In looking into the issue for this piece, I saw several mouse brands, including Razer and Logitech, listed.

I don’t think this is necessarily a mouse issue. Rather, it seems like some visual conflict between the cursor icon in Marathon and whatever Marathon uses to interface with it, causing massive lag between your mouse and the inputs you make.

Diagnosing the issue is difficult given how varied people’s PC setups are and how many mice are on the market, but hopefully it’s something Bungie can fix before launch. Be sure to report the issue on official forums (Steam or Bungie.net) with your system specs so the devs have as much data as they can get.
