Marvel Maximum Collection features X-Men: The Arcade Game, Maximum Carnage, and more
A total of 13 games from Marvel's 8-bit and 16-bit arcade and console eras will be included in this compilation from Limited Run Games.
Marvel's gaming department is in the middle of a golden age between single-player hits like Marvel's Spider-Man 2, co-op arcade-style brawlers like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and multiplayer fiestas like Marvel Rivals, just to name a few. Of course, Marvel's gaming roots go farther back than that and the people at Limited Run Games are about to collect many of Marvel's original 8-bit and 16-bit hits. Marvel Maximum Collection is a 13-game compilation from a variety of publishers across various platforms.
The Marvel Maximum Collection will include X-Men: The Arcade Game (Arcade), Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear), Captain America and the Avengers (Arcade, Sega Genesis, NES), Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis), Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis), and Silver Surfer (NES). This is the first time many of these games are being re-released on modern platforms. X-Men: The Arcade Game was previously released back in 2010 on Xbox 360 as an Xbox Live Arcade digital title and more recently released as part of Arcade1Up's arcade cabinet lineup.
Limited Run, in conjunction with Marvel Games and Konami, is looking to bolster this collection with some additional features, including rollback netcode for X-Men: The Arcade Game. Curiously, the trailer only shows a two-player interface, but Limited Run's description notes that online play will support up to six players. The other games featured will benefit from Save Anywhere and In-Game Rewind features. Plus, the collection will offer a Museum filled with behind-the-scenes goodies.
There is no release timing for Marvel Maximum Collection, but it's coming soon to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
