An update

It's been about a month since we implemented the changes to the Shacknews community guidelines, and I would like to provide some updates.

As I mentioned in December, we have been talking to users who are part of disenfranchised groups about how best to support them while still avoiding general political discussion here. As a result of those conversations, and talks with the Shacknews staff, we will be allowing activist posts going forward.

We want to encourage supportive and solution-oriented posts, whether you are asking for help or looking to be part of the solution.

Our focus remains on building a safe and positive community for all of our posters, staff, and moderators.

I would like to address one aspect of my previous Cortex post. Some have misinterpreted a portion of my post as implying the entire Shacknews community is or was racist. That is most certainly not the case, and it was genuinely not my intention to convey such a message.

Additionally, we have some development updates to announce today regarding deletion of Shacknews accounts.

Deleted account names will no longer be able to be recreated, preventing ban circumvention and imposters. Deleted account post history is no longer viewable via Shacknews Chatty search results. Accounts deleted before today's update are still able to have their Shackname recreated, but this will not be an issue going forward.

We are still working on some more features to prevent harassment on the website, and will continue to invest in increased community safety measures.
